Who to watch: Top picks for 2021 British WMX Championship

British Motocross Championship Lyng
A refreshed initiative for 2021 is the addition of a three-round British WMX Championship for female competitors.
There has been similar in the past although more recently the British Championship was a one-off affair held at Lyng. With Gareth Hockeys dream for the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship Fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels series to be an all-encompassing affair, a three-round series for females over-15 (WMX) along with a class for youth racers on 85cc bikes (WMX85) were added into the schedule.
The WMX championship will run at Lyng, Little Silver and Whitby while the WMX85 contenders will get to show their skills at Little Silver, Whitby and Landrake.
The racing promises to be quite interesting as British Womens Motocross Association champion Chelsea Gowland takes on the ACUs fastest females for the first time in a long time. The Lancashire lass has been dominant in the BWMA in recent years and it will be nice to see her put to the test with the added potential to put herself in a position to compete at an even higher level given the right support.
Although the entry list is far from complete (Lyng is still over a month away), the ladies most likely to be in contention are looking like being Scotlands Elaine MacEachern, Amie Goodlad and Nadiya Jones with former youth ace Lauren Collingwood also one to watch.
Theres going to be fireworks in the WMX85 class which will run with the BW85 class at Little Silver, Whitby and Landrake but scored separately too. A couple of the girls are pulling double duty here with Lucy Barker and Beanie Reece doing the full BW85 tour which takes in all rounds of the championship its a busy year for those kids!
Based on previous results youd have to say Barker looks favourite to take the win but lets not forget that theyll be mixed in with the boys which is a move that brings a whole heap of variables with it.
