British Trials Championship Kinlochleven, Scotland

Dougie Lampkin once again finished as runner up, this time at the second round of the 2009 British Trials Championship held at Kinlochleven, Scotland. A series of three fives on the closing two laps of the event were at the core of Dougie surrendering a convincing opening lead, after he had started the day in such devastating form. n wet and windy conditions Lampkin stamped his superiority on thecompetition by completing his first lap of three totally unpenalised. His clean ride through the initial twelve slippery sections set underthe trees on the loch side put him eleven marks ahead of eventualwinner Dabill who had parted with one maximum and six dabs over thesame period.
However Dougie was to endure a much different lap on his secondvisit to the same hazards, him losing a total of twelve marks thatincluded back to back fives at sections eight and nine. The first ofthese happened when Lampkin attempted an alternative line, whilst thelatter came as the ex multi World champion failed at the tricky doublestep.
Despite this set back the Beta factory rider still headed hisnearest challenger Dabill by four marks going into the final anddecisive lap. This looked a sufficient margin to carry Lampkin tovictory, but another five on section six this time would prove to beDougie's ultimate undoing. Lampkin closed his day with a lap of eight, but this was not enough to prevent Dabill taking the win as he finishedoff by dropping just a single dab on his last lap.
Frustrated with his day's work Dougie said. "I started really welland felt very confident with my riding on the first lap. But after thatit all started to go horribly wrong. First off I tried a new line onsection eight on the second lap that went wrong and then I got off lineon the double step in the next section. Those two quick fives turned myday on its head.”
Dougie concluded. "Overall it's not been a good day, but whilst theresult was not what I was looking for, it has been vital practice aheadof the first World round in Ireland in a couple of weeks time.”
