MXY2 replaced as British 125cc and Open Championships grow number of rounds
By Team TMX on 28th Nov 19
The ACU British 125cc and Open Championships will increase to a 10 round series in the 2020 season which replaces the previously run MXY2 support class at the ACU British Motocross Championship.
This exciting move of an extended calendar will see six two day rounds being hosted by RHL Activities and four one day rounds being hosted by the Salop, Norwich Viking, Langrish and Woodbridge Clubs within the one day ACU Adult British Championship.
With both categories being an ideal stepping stone for youngsters to take before making the move to the European Championship ranks, the ACU and RHL Activities felt it important to give more diversity to the championship to assist with possibilities for the riders to learn. Riders will compete at some of the best tracks in the country in 2020.
Steve McCauley, ACU Motocross Committee Chairman: The ACU Motocross Committee are pleased to have reached an agreement with RHL to diversify the British Youth Open and 125 championships. This gives clarity and will create a fantastic platform for our stars of the future to showcase their talents alongside such famous names as Tommy Searle, Brent Van Doninck, Conrad Mewse etc. The list is endless. I am sure this class will fill very quickly so I urge those interested to contact RHL asap to register their interest.
Gareth Hockey, RHL Activities Director: We are pleased to be able to increase the Official ACU British 125cc and Open Championship into a 10-round series in 2020. Our goal is to prepare youngsters as well as possible for European competition, and we felt by extending to 10 rounds and racing alongside the adults at eight of these rounds, it would give young riders a better grounding as they continue their journey on the racing ladder. We look forward to seeing all of the youngsters on 125cc and Open machinery battle it out for the title in their respective championships next season.
