KTM MX2 factory runner Shaun Simpson may miss the rest of the season after breaking a leg in a serious training crash today, writes ALEX HODGKINSON.

Details of the incident at Reusel in Holland are still sketchy, but the Scot has definitely suffered a fracture above the ankle and a further break just below the knee is suspected. The factory KTM was demolished in the accident.

Exact details of the accident are still unclear and the phone lines were running hot at KTM, but Sports Manager Pit Beirer found time to give details of what is as yet known.

"I have not yet been able to speak to Shaun himself but I have spoken with his father Willie.  Apparently Shaun lost control over a jump. There is definitely a break just above the ankle, possibly also a fracture just below the knee.

"As I spoke to Willie, they were still in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, so they are to waiting for a further diagnosis. Stefan Everts was not at the track today and I am in constant contact with him as he tries to discover more information.

"We do not know yet what happened, but the bike hit a tree and was completely demolished."

Just three-days before the 21-year-old Scot had recorded the first GP moto victory of his career and was looking forward to putting his world title challenge into top gear over the next few weeks.

We wish the likeable Scot a complete and speedy recovery, but he now faces weeks - possibly months - out of action.
