Carpenter out for the season

REVO Husqvarna UKs Jamie Carpenter will be sidelined for the rest of the 2017 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.
The 18-year-old, last year's MXY2 champion, was involved in a first-turn pile-up at Lyng earlier this month. He sustained a knee injury in the crash along with a third-degree burn when his leg was trapped against his bike's silencer.
After a delay for swelling to subside the extent of the damage to his knee was assessed and his ACL has been severed, requiring surgery that will have to be delayed until his burn has healed.
Specialists also discovered a tear to his MCL that will heal naturally.
The recovery time involved means a premature end to what was shaping up to be a very promising rookie Pro season.
"Unfortunately, the 2017 season has come to a very early end for me as it's just been confirmed that I've snapped my ACL and damaged my MCL,” he said. "I will need surgery but I will have to wait for the third degree burn that I sustained at the same time to heal first.
"I felt very happy at the last round of the Maxxis championship at Lyng after qualifying 11th and felt I was in a good position to break into the top 10.
"I would like to thank Mark and Sam Yates at REVO Husqvarna UK, my mechanic Gary Finch, my dad and all of my sponsors.
"It's now time for me to rest, heal-up and then start preparation for 2018. I feel very fortunate to have the right people around me who I know I can rely on to help me recover from this and come back even stronger.”
Team boss Mark Yates confirmed the bad news.
"It's going to be a long period of recovery after his operation which he can't undertake for about four weeks due to the burn and then it's a six-month convalescence.
"From a team point of view we're all devastated for him. He's shown brilliant promise – especially his qualifying time at Lyng in only his third proper professional race.
"There are no immediate plans to look for a replacement.”
