Round 4 of the Doodson Motorsport BSMA National Series was hosted by Cotswold Youth MXC at the long established Pontrilas Moto Parc, near Hereford which, coupled with favourable weather conditions, expert preparation and full line ups had all the ingredients for some exciting racing over two days. With racing completed by 2.30 on the second day, and winners leaving with a pair of Golden Tyres for their efforts, a good weekend of racing was enjoyed by all.
Racing started with a full line up of Open and AMX competitors with reserves waiting for their chance. Series leader Ashley Thomas won the opening heat from Aaron Jenner who is now definitely getting the most out of the extra power available from his 450 Honda. These two riders were always at the front of the field throughout the weekend.
The best racing of the series was for the next ten places with Joe Barry battling hard with Paul Neale and Carl Jones having to fend off some determined riding for Ryan Williams. Heat two was taken gate to flag by Aaron Jenner with Ashley Thomas battling back to a close second following an early fall. The battle behind was taken by Paul Neale from Ryan Williams, Joe Berry and Carl Jones with Scott Bates, back from injury, well in contention.
Aaron Jenner
Heat three was taken with ease by Ashley Thomas from Aaron Jenner who had both pulled away from the pack by over 30 seconds. Carl Jones and Ryan Bawn had a race long battle for the next spot with Jones making a desperate last corner pass to take the position. The pressure was kept up by Paul Neale and Jake Hassell. Heat four was taken by Aaron Jenner to set up a last heat decider with Carl Jones again taking third from Ryan Williams and Ryan Bawn who had promising for third early in the heat. The final heat went down to the wire with Aaron Jenner taking the win by two seconds from Ashley Thomas to claim the overall and a set of Golden Tyres for his efforts. Once again Carl Jones came home third from Scott Bates who passed Ryan Bawn late on in the heat.
The 250cc Four-stroke Seniors were next to the line with Jordan Divall back on form and pulling some points back on series leader Shaun Springer. The opening heat was a gate to flag event for Divall with Dan Thornhill taking second from Lloyd Pettitt and Shaun Springer.
Heat two was a repeat for Divall with a five second cushion over Shaun Springer, Dan Thornhill and Alex Meadow in fourth.
Heat three saw Shaun Springer claim his only heat win with Divall battling through to claim second from Luke Newman at the flag following a poor start. Tommy Alba and Dan Thornhill claimed the minor positions.
Heat four was won in style by Lloyd Pettitt with an impressive eight second margin over Jordan Divall. Third spot was taken by Jack Tims chased home by Dan Thornhill and Shaun Springer.
The final heat was taken by overall winner Jordan Divall with an improving Tommy Alba claiming second well clear of an exciting battle between Shaun Springer, Alex Meadow, Alex Davies, Luke Newman and Harry Selwood.
Senior Jay Thomas set a superb pace in heat one but problems late on gave Chambers Whittle the win form Calum Sloman. Thomas coming home third.
Again in heat two a mistake from Jay Thomas allowed Chambers Whittle to take the win with Calum Sloman taking third.
Heat three was taken by Jay Thomas who finally put a complete performance together to take the win. Consistent Calum Sloman took second from Chase Neal and Chamber Whittle a close fourth.
Jay Thomas took another heat win in the next heat by just two seconds from Chambers Whittle, Third and fourth went to Chase Neal and Calum Sloman respectively.
The final heat was taken in style by over 20 seconds by Jay Thomas from Chambers Whittle who secured second overall. Calum Sloman got the better of Jake Penny who secured his best finish of the weekend in fourth.
Liam Garland took an unchallenged maximum in the Big-wheel 85cc group with his style through the whoop section a pleasure to watch. The battle behind was intense. Having started slowly Jack Gardner finished his weekend with three second places to claim runner up spot overall. Jordan Batchelor looked to be the obvious runner up until a disaster on the final lap of heat four relegated Jordan to third overall. Kieron Gregory looked safe in fourth spot until he lost his silencer in the last heat which allowed Curtis Blamey into fourth.
The Small-wheel 85cc group was also dominated with a maximum going to Suzuki pilot Danny Lanfear. Michael Ellis showed that consistency is important to claim second overall with four thirds and a fourth. A poor finish in heat two put a dent in Henry Williams' weekend but still managed to claim third overall. Jamie Carpenter edged out Dan Wheeler to claim fourth and fifth respectively. One to watch for the future will be Robert Yates whose trio of second places was sufficient to claim sixth at the end of racing.
The Junior group was dominated by Albie Wilkie who missed out on his maximum in the final heat following a second place finish to overall runner up Taylor Hammal. A super consistent Alex Walton took third in each heat and completed the top three overall.
Following this superb event hosted by the Cotswold Club I offer my thanks to the Cotswold Committee, the BSMA management and the riders for providing a very successful event. The series moves on to Landrake on August 28 and 29 and registered riders are requested to book-in by the closing date to secure their entry as entries will be taken from support riders once this date has passed.
