With the GP of Portugal bringing the first half of the Enduro World Championship to a close, France continues to be the dominant force in the series.

With Rodrig Thain and Antoine Meo securing victory in Enduro 1, Johnny Aubert and Pela Renet winning Enduro 2 and Christophe Nambotin and Mathias Bellino claiming a double victory in Enduro 3 and Enduro Junior, France led the way in the Portugal.

Moving away from the wet and muddy conditions of the GP of Euskadi in northern Spain just one weekend earlier, the series headed south to the dry, dusty, slippery terrain of Torres Vedras, near Lisbon.

With competitors facing a tough and technical rocky extreme test and a cross test and enduro test that were almost identical to each other, Portugal was a weekend that favoured the former motocross specialists in the paddock.

Leading home the strong British contingent of riders entered in Portugal was Manxman Danny McCanney.

Finishing fourth on day one before improving to third on day two in Enduro Junior, the Gas Gas rider secured his fourth podium of the season to
strengthen his top three position in the championship standings.

"I started off day one too slow and it cost me a chance of finishing on the podium,” he said.

"I found some better lines on the extreme test and picked up my pace but just missed third place by two seconds.

"Day two went a lot better and I managed to set some fast times.

"Aside from a crash on the final extreme test, everything went well and I was able to podium again.

I'm now just two points away from second in the championship so I'm looking forward to the next round in Italy.”

Continuing to deliver some exceptional results in the highly competitive Enduro 2 class, Electraction TM's Jordan Rose placed inside the top ten.

Enjoying the dry and dusty conditions that weren't favourable to the two-stroke riders,

Rose consistently set impressive test times on both the extreme and enduro tests.

Finishing ninth on day one, he improved to eighth on day two.

"The conditions were really tough this weekend and it was hard to know how hard to push on the tests,” recalled Jordan.

"Considering how slippery the conditions were I'm pleased with my performance. Overall these two rounds of the championship in Spain and Portugal have gone better than I expected.

"I know now what to expect and what to improve on if I get the opportunity to return.”

However, while it was a successful weekend for McCanney and Rose it also proved to be a frustrating one for both Enduro 3 candidate David Knight (KTM) and Enduro Junior rider Alex Rockwell (Husaberg).

Finishing tenth on day one, Rockwell was forced to retire after a crash on one of the rock steps on the extreme test.

For Knight finishing seventh on day one before dropping to a lowly 13th on day resulted in the GP of Portugal becoming a weekend to forget.
