Dashing Dallaway

Motocross

THIS year's famous Nostalgia Scramble, promoted by the Kendal Classic Club and sponsored by Triumph Cumbria, provided truly great entertainment from start to finish for the large turnout of spectators. The superb track stayed dry despite the odd shower and by the end of proceedings was, amazingly, almost dusty.First up were the real men on their heavy Pre-60 machines and it was big Pete Hollinshead from Nantwich on his 650cc BSA who took the win from the Tribsa of Ilkeston's Steve Gagg. In third place was the unlucky Peter Jackson on his beautiful Gold Star BSA.

Young Tim Dallaway, all the way from Honiton in Devon, took advantage of runaway first race winner Andy Roberton's bike problems in the Pre-65 Up to 350cc class to score a popular victory on his 350cc BSA from Andy Camm and Mick Beech who were both BSA-mounted.
Tim also managed to finish second to Nostalgia favourite Tim Manton in the bigger Pre-65 class also sponsored by R&SJ McManus after the man in yellow, Terry Challinor, had machine troubles in race one.
However, Terry's battles with Manton in the other two races will live long in the memory.
The Pre-70 class also provided some tremendous action between the big three of Roberton, Carl Pope and Adrian Cox but Roberton slipped off in the second race and despite winning the other two had to settle for second behind Pope with Cox in third.
Bridgnorth's John Price had his expected three easy wins on his screaming Honda Elsinore in the Pre-74 up to 250cc class after similarly mounted Andy Storey crashed heavily early in the proceedings. Second place went to CZ Stuff's Gerard Copping with Motolink Yamaha's Keith Alderman in third.
Scott Maxwell ran away with the first Pre-74 over 250cc class race but bike troubles ended his day leaving a stylish Gary Parker to win on Denis Rawcliffe's CCM with CZ mounted Wayne Partington second and local star Tony Barnes third after some bad starts. Tony's brother Keith took the Pre-77 class by storm on his extremely quick CCM from the two Huskys of Preston's Jem Parker and Scottish star Tommy Anderson.
The great Jimmy Aird completely dominated the Twin-shock Bandits after getting lightning starts from the Montesa of Ken Sourbutts and the 490cc Maico of Wakefield's Alan Hardy. The Twin-shock Pirates provided fireworks all the way with the four-stroke CCM of Tow Law's Richard Charlton beating the two-stroke Maico of slow-starting Pete Mathia, despite losing his chain when leading race two. Dunfermline bike shop owner Paul Chiappa finished third while Holmfirth's Keith Silvester could only finish fourth after his bike wouldn't start for race one.

Tim Dallaway (164) edges ahead of Tim Manton (96) in a thrilling showdown in the Pre-65 Over 350cc class.
