Doug on the March

DOUGIE Lampkin broke new ground last week when he was star of the show at a recent press day organised to promote the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed which will take place on July 11/12/13. Invited to dinner at Goodwood House, in Chichester, East Sussex by Lord March, along with a select few luminaries including car racing legends Stirling Moss and Derek Bell, Doug stunned the assembled special guests with a pre-dinner stunt. The seven times World Trials Champ emerged at the top of the main staircase in Goodwood House and proceeded to ride the factory Beta all the way down the carpet-covered steps on the front wheel! To spontaneous applause, Doug parked the bike and cool as you like, joined the dinner party!
Said Doug, I don't often get nervous these days but when I sat at the top of the stairs in front of some very special guests my heart was pounding. Thankfully it all went well and everyone said they had never seen anything like it before!
I am both proud and privileged to have been invited by Lord March to play a role in what is one of the great motorsport events in the world. I am really looking forward to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July as we have some special stuff planned that will certainly cause a stir amongst the 150,000 people expected over the three days. I have been invited several times before but unfortunately, due to World Trials Championship commitments, I have not been able to make it. At last the calendar has allowed me to accept the offer.
The day after the special dinner at a press call, Dougie was requested to reprise his staircase ride which he did after receiving consent from his surprisingly obliging host!
