Motocross

IN what has been one of the best AMCA motocross championships for several seasons, the spectators present at Walterstone, on Sunday, for the penultimate round of the 2007 series, were served an absolute thriller. Following the event, again expertly presented by the Hereford MXC, it is now confirmed that the destinations of both titles are set to go right down to the wire at Nympsfield on October 7.

In the 125cc class, defending champion, Brad O'Leary, regained thechampionship lead by recording a brilliant maximum while rival, PhilMercer, endured an absolute nightmare. Electrical problems halted hismachine in moto two, and Phil then spun off in the final clash and wasunable to quickly restart. On both occasions he had been challengingO'Leary for race leadership.

Joining O'Leary on the 125cc podium was the very consistent James Lane, while the very much on form Matt Porter took third on the day.

Following the Open class action, Ben Saunders carries a 13-pointadvantage to the final showdown ahead of season-long rival, DavidCampbell. While the dynamic duo again earned the top two places on thepodium, third spot went to Jamie Powell with a 4-3-9 scorecard. Powellfinished just ahead of Simon Lane, Aaron Crowder, Charlie Hollis andco., who all produced some super action on the big, fast Herefordshirecircuit.

With Saunders and Campbell now set to go head-to-head for the 2007crown, the tussle for the bronze medal is definitely on as Hollis holdsa slender nine-point advantage over Crowder and just a single pointseparates Lane and Clinton Barrs for fifth spot.

Barrs took the first moto win of the day in the Open class, quicklypassing the fast-starting David Wright. Saunders slotted into secondand the leading duo fabricated a healthy lead while Campbell was forcedto work very hard to earn third spot at the flag after passing Powell.Having only his second outing aboard Kawasaki machinery, Aaron Poolman took a great fifth place.

In moto two, Campbell was the fastest rider away, followed by Powell,Hollis, Saunders, Lane, Crowder, Du-Feu and first moto winner Barrs.
