Dunlop riders Pauls Jonass and Romain Febvre fought through treacherous conditions over the weekend to secure a one-two finish in the MXGP of Portugal.
A rain-affected race day left the riders with some of the trickiest possible conditions after a heavy downpour before Race 1 set the scene for the day’s action.
Race 1 saw the two Dunlop riders exhibit exceptional skill in navigating the conditions that would be the theme of the day. Jonass, riding for Standing Construct Honda MXGP Team, and Febvre, riding for Kawasaki Racing Team, finished second and third respectively.
Jonass began Race 1 from fifth place and climbed the order to finish an impressive second. He would go on to replicate this performance in Race 2, which was enough to secure a first ever overall victory in the MXGP class. He remains fifth in the overall standings.
This success highlights the performance and reliability of the Dunlop Geomax tyrerange that delivered confidence despite the conditions. On a day where consistent performance was key, Dunlop riders exhibited world class performances. Every Dunlop rider chose the latest MX14 rear tyrewhich has tread blocks designed to scoop the mud and a compound that provides stiffness and support.
“The MXGP of Portugal saw some of the toughest conditions with a lot of standing water and loose ground,” said Wim Van Achter, Motorsport Manager, Dunlop. “Both Jonass and Febvre showed their skill and class by being patient and ultimately coming out on top as others struggled or made mistakes.
“It was a day where riders needed full belief and confidence in their package, and I'm glad that once again Dunlop technology and performance was on full display.
“It was also great to see Jonass take his first ever MXGP overall win on Dunlop tyres - I’m sure the first of many.”
The next round of the MXGP World Championship takes place this weekend in Lugo, Spain.
