Dusting down the chairs...

THIS week the Maxxis British Sidecarcross Championship moved to round four at Waggadon Farm, Torrington, Devon, for a great day's racing in the sunshine. Stuart Brown and Luke Peters were again unbeaten in the championship races taking another two wins to maintain their championship lead. Unfortunately, the final race of the day was cancelled due to dust. John Lyne and Steve Kirwin were the initial pace-setters in the first race but a clash on the second bend left them back in fifth spot. Simon Bradford and Marc Cooper used this to their advantage, blasting into the lead, while Dan and Joe Millard held second ahead of Andy and Tim Breacher, with Rob Topp and Mike Geraghty fourth. Behind came the real battle with Stuart Brown and Luke Peters fighting to get past Lyne and Kirwin.

At this point the race really heated up, at the front Bradford blew up his engine. This left the Millard brothers at the front, but they suffered problems, tipping the plot going into a tight bend.

Andy and Tim Breacher thus inherited the lead and blasted ahead, cheered on by the crowd. However, it wasn't long before Brown was on their back wheel.

A great battle ensued for the next few laps with Breacher determined to stay ahead. Brown took the outside line along the finish straight, but Breacher used his opposite-side chair to his advantage, turning tight on the inside and the two chairs went into the bend with no distance between them. Breacher stayed ahead for a few more corners, but Brown eventually forced ahead, and went on to take a great victory. The Breachers took a well deserved second, their best position to date, and behind Lyne held a close third.

Richard Jenkins and Dan Chamberlain were also in top form, taking advantage of a great start to hold fourth just ahead of Topp and Geraghty. The battle for sixth was probably the best racing, with Mark Kinge and Kevin Foyle fighting through in the final laps leaving the Millard brothers in seventh.

Lyne again holeshot the second race, this time followed by Bradford with Brown tucked in behind. Coming out of the second bend and down the hill, the Millard brothers crashed right through the ropes and ended up under their bike!

Brown took just a few laps to blast through into the lead, despite a strong defence from Bradford. The battle behind provided great entertainment for the enthusiastic crowd, who were cheering on their favourites. Kinge and Foyle set the pace with Rob Oldfield and Gary Kinge close behind in fifth, just ahead of Jenkins and Chamberlain, but there were two teams on a charge determined to blast toward the front of the pack, first were Stickle Jarvis and new passenger Colin Dunkley, they were on good form and fought through the dust picking off one team every few laps, blasting to a very well deserved fourth place, Kinge and Foyle held fifth with Andy and Tim Breacher fighting through to take sixth ahead of Jenkins and Chamberlain.

As the dust was becoming too thick to see through the club took the decision to cancel the final race so points were collected over just two races. That leaves Brown with full points and a great championship lead with Lyne still second with Breacher now third ahead of Bradford. Millard drops back to fifth just a few points ahead of Jenkins, the one to watch for is Jarvis who now holds seventh and is determined to move ahead.

The next round is on June 14 at Wattisfield Hall – expect the youngsters to be fighting hard to get those points and move towards the podium finishes.

Don't miss the action – see you there!
