Current British MX2 champion Dylan Walsh and James Dunn have been signed with REVO Seven Kawasaki for 2021, the team has announced.
Walsh won his MX2 title in 2019 at the cost of his former Revo team-mate, Alvin Ostlund in a closely matched battle. The 22-year-old New Zealander had a steady start in his title-winning year but went on a dominant seven-moto winning streak to smoke the competition.
For 2021, the crazy-fast Kiwi will focus on the domestic championships with some selected European MXGP rounds when possible. Walsh will be on the KX450 and look to challenge the established stars of the British MX1 class.
That's something Team Principal Mark Yates thinks Walsh is more than ready to do. "I would say that Dylans probably the favourite next year," he said.
"Considering that this will only be his second season on a 450 his raw speed is incredible. Hes as fast as anyone out there and hell be a lot more race-ready going into 2021. We are still the reigning MX2 British champions so Dylan is moving up into MX1 and looking for the double. Thats our main focus."
Walsh appears to be equally confident he's ready. "I cant wait for next year, " he said. "Im going into the British championship as the reigning MX2 champion and hopefully we can pull all the pieces together and come out as the MX1 champion.
"Were also doing a few GPs which will be good. Sam, Mark and I have a great relationship and Roger from Seven is a big part of that as well."
25-year-old James Dunn will also focus on domestic racing but look to compete in selected EMXOpen races.
"Im excited about 2021 it should be a good year and Im looking forward to it," said Dunn.
"Ive only ridden a 450 Kawasaki once but that was probably three years ago so I dont have a lot of experience with the bikes but its great to be back with the REVO team. Theyre good people and put a lot back into the sport so Im very happy to be riding for them again."
Mark Yates is returning to British motocross after a year away and is pleased to be back.
"This exciting opportunity has come about through Ross Burridge at Kawasaki UK and along with Roger Larsen at Seven weve put this great team together," said Yates.
"We decided to take a year out in 2020 but REVO will be back in the paddock next season!
"We have forged a great relationship and a strong bond with Dylan over the last two years. He had a number of opportunities but he wanted us involved. He knows he can trust us and that well do what we say we will when we say we will and that were looking out for his interests as well as our own.
"We all know how fast and stylish James can be when hes on his A-game. He hasnt ridden this year so hes going to have to get his bike fitness built up but I know hes already training. Were not expecting him to set the world on fire but it would be nice to see him get up into the top five on occasion."
Sam Yates Team Manager: "Im excited to be working with Kawasaki and very excited to see what Dylan can do on their 450 because hes shown great potential in GPs. Its also good to have James back and if we can get the best out of him he will surprise a lot of people with how well he can go he can be a top-five guy and I reckon he could even be knocking on the door of a podium at times."
Roger Larsen Seven: "Im delighted to be working with the REVO team again next year. Mark and Sam are never anything other than professional and Dylans so fast with so much promise and potential but theyre also a good bunch of people and we have a great relationship. James Dunn is a strong addition to the set-up and we all know how good the KX450 is so Im looking forward to an exciting season ahead."
Ross Burridge Kawasaki UK: "Having worked with Mark and the REVO team a few years back its exciting to once again have them as part of the Team Green family. They have come a long way as a team since we last worked together and Im eager to see what the team and their strong rider line-up can achieve in the newly revamped British MX Championship. Our KX450 is a formidable MX1 machine and Im confident this combination can battle for the title in 2021."
