Eric Kitchen - 80 not out!
By Team TMX on 7th Jan 13
Legendary trials photographer Eric Kitchen celebrated his 80th birthday last Sunday - the day after the Sheffield Indoor Trial - and in fact the clock ticked past midnight somewhere on the M62 as EK was heading back to his Lake District home while riding shotgun in TMX editor JD's car!
And amazingly it was a quick chorus of Happy 80th Birthday To You as we celebrated with the only food to hand - a pork pie!
Kitch has been taking pics for TMX virtually since day one, which was back in 1977, and is still snapping away virtually every weekend having taken to the digital world - after learning his craft with films and slides - quicker and more successfully than many half his age. And EK still gets round the sections quicker and nimbler on his feet than many of us as well. You've to be pretty fit to keep up when Eric's on his way to the sections.
EK has travelled the world with his Nikons at the ready, including several trips to Japan which were literally 'flying visits' and he claims never to have been in a camera shop in Japan - just saw them through the car window heading to the trial from the airport and then again on the return a couple of days later!
Happy birthday EK - and many more of 'em!
