Bringing their participation in this years International Six Days Enduro in Sardinia to a fantastic close, the ACU British Junior World Trophy team ended their week on the podium with third overall.

Entering the event as one of the strongest teams, Great Britain's Junior quartet of Jamie McCanney (Husaberg), Danny McCanney (Gas Gas), Jack Rowland (Husqvarna) and Steve Holcombe (KTM) lived up to expectations as they finished third overall behind eventual champions France and runner-up Italy.

Although hoping to go one place better than their second place finish in 2012, the young Brits faced determined French and Italian teams.

The French – led by Husaberg duo Loic Larrieu and Mathias Bellino – hit the ground running on day one.

As defending champions they benefitted from a slightly better starting position, which proved vital in avoiding the dust clouds that lingered on the special tests enabling them to open up an early lead.

Once out front they were never headed and marched on to successfully defend their crown.

The Italians too were hungry for success and with home support behind them chased France home for second on day one.

Not faltering throughout the remainder of the week – but unable to gain time on France – Italy ended their home race in second overall.

For the Brits, day one proved costly as dust and a change in weather caused plenty of problems.

Unable to see the special tests due to the billowing clouds of dust, they were forced to play it safe.

And with Jamie McCanney's bike suffering from jetting issues, they ended day one in fourth, more than a minute behind the French.

From then on it was a week of catch-up. Overhauling the USA on day two, Great Britain eventually ended their week in third overall.

Faring best, Jamie McCanney settled into the race on day two and began to claw some valuable time back.

Fourteenth on day one in the Enduro 2 class he ended day two 10th in class and moved up to 20th place in the overall classification.

Now up to speed, the Manxman retained his pace for the rest of the week. Ending his race 11th in E2 and 20th overall, he also finished behind Larrieu and Bellino as the third fastest outright Junior rider.

Backing the Husaberg rider up, Danny McCanney was never too far behind his younger brother, despite also being hampered by dust on the opening day,

Danny steadily improved on his day one result of 33rd overall to end his week inside the top 30 while placing 10th in the Enduro 3 class and finishing sixth fastest Junior rider.

Competing in the highly competitive Enduro 1 class, both Rowland and Holcombe acquitted themselves well.

For Rowland – his third time with team GB – his week didn't go to plan.
