Gabriel SS24 KTM take Canada Heights double
By Team TMX on 13th Jul 26
Gabriel SS24 KTM teammates Oriol Oliver and Gyan Doensen delivered a standout performance at Round 6 of the Motul ACU British Motocross Championship at Canada Heights, taking victories in the MX1 and MX2 classes to the delight of Team Principal Shaun Simpson.
Oliver was in dominant form in MX1, securing a perfect 1-1 scorecard to claim maximum points, while Doensen claimed the MX2 overall with a 1-4 result after featuring in some of the most intense racing seen in the series this season.
In MX2, series leader Charlie Heyman set the pace in qualifying ahead of Doensen and Charlie Richmond, but the big story was the absence of Tommy Searle, who was forced out of the meeting after a heavy crash in free practice.
Heyman carried his speed into the opening moto, taking the early lead, but Doensen remained relentless and made a decisive move in the final third of the race to take the win. Heyman finished second, with Ollie Colmer and Ben Mustoe charging through the pack for third and fourth, while Billy Askew rounded out the top five.
Moto two saw Jamie Keith grab the holeshot ahead of Mustoe, Joe Brookes and Askew. However, the race quickly developed into a multi-rider battle as positions changed rapidly. Brookes eventually moved into the lead after incidents for both Keith, who crashed, and Askew, who tangled with a lapped rider.
The closing stages were frantic, with Joel Rizzi and Doensen joining the fight at the front. Brookes held on for the win ahead of Askew and Rizzi, while Doensen’s consistency secured him the overall victory. Heyman recovered to ninth, but extended his championship lead to 57 points following Searle’s absence. Doensen now moves into second in the standings, with Mustoe advancing ahead of Searle.
In Apico MX1, Oliver proved untouchable, taking two convincing race wins ahead of series leader Conrad Mewse, who finished second in both motos. Oliver’s performance lifts him to second in the championship after a difficult day for Ben Watson, who crashed at the start of race one and later suffered a DNF in moto two due to a chain issue.
Tristan Purdon completed the overall podium with consistent 3-4 finishes, narrowly edging out Adam Sterry and Taylor Hammal, while Tom Grimshaw finished sixth overall.
Mewse now leads the MX1 standings by 16 points over Oliver, with Watson dropping to third, a further 17 points adrift. Hammal sits comfortably in fourth, with Purdon completing the top five.
In the RFX 125cc Championship, Brian Gyles claimed overall victory with a strong 2-2 performance, overcoming race two winner Hayden Statt, who finished fourth in the opening moto. Arthur Moore won the first race but slipped to ninth in race two, while still outscoring Joel Winstanley-Dawson and series leader Drew Stock.
Stock continues to control the championship with a commanding 77-point lead and is on course to secure the title at the penultimate round at Duns on August 9. Harley Marczak, absent at Canada Heights, remains second in the standings, with Winstanley-Dawson holding third.
