Febvre and Guillod turn up the heat as KTM collapse at Loket...
Brits grabbed four moto wins with Max Anstie, Brad Anderson and Jack Bintcliffe on fire as Yamaha swept the board at Loket with victories for Romain Febvre, Valentin Guillod, Bad Brad and Nancy van de Ven – not to mention a fourth WMX title for Kiara Fontanesi.
But KTM's empire collapsed around them with a season-ending injury for Jeffrey Herlings and TC#222 not even at the track.
The immaculate Febvre and the enigmatic Anstie were the stars of the show.
The French MXGP rookie was in a class of his own all weekend and Max was just 10 laps away from another perfect weekend until he baled out big-time through the waves.
"I was having another awesome weekend...until the crash,” grinned the Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki rider.
"I felt good to move to the front and win both the qualification race and the first moto and I was in control of the second race too until my left hand just came off the bars and I went down hard. I was winded and the bike was all smashed up.
"It's a shame but there are three sand GPs coming up and it's not over yet.”
Max is still seventh in the points but just 62 away from the effective series lead.
Herlings' comeback lasted 22 laps before he was air-lifted to Belgium with a dislocated hip and a shattered right femur.
After five years of total domination, KTM title hopes for 2016 rest with Pauls Jonass who is 10 off the pace in MX2 after a hardpack podium.
Orange leader in MXGP is Shaun Simpson – top six again among the factory boys – while Tommy Searle recorded his personal best of a troubled year in the Czech Republic, Nathan Watson took top 10, Jake Nicholls hung in for two scores and Adam Sterry and Ben Watson put their names on the scoresheet in MX2.
Anstie didn't holeshot any of his races but he moved with clinical efficiency into the lead within a few laps each time,, as he proved once again that in the absence of Herlings he is the class act in MX2.
Defending champion Jordi Tixier had no answer to the DRT runner as the Kawasakis chased down Samuele Bernardini, three-lap leader for TM in both quali and moto one after dramatically railing the outside of the tricky first turn.
The only other man on Anstie's pace was Guillod but, as on Saturday, the Swiss ace – always at home on slippery hardpack – had pushed his luck too far mid-moto to slip off when he got to third.
With Anstie cruising, Guillod set the fastest lap at the close to scorch past Tixier for second on the climb to pit straight.
Tim Gajser, effective points lead in the absence of Herlings, was keeping his right foot on the rest after suffering ligament damage in the ankle a fortnight earlier in Latvia but still held an early fifth before he slipped off directly into the path of Jeremy Seewer.
