Halfway point for Honda 150 Championship
By TMX Archives on 18th Jun 15
The third round of the Honda 150 European Championship takes place this weekend in Germany, which marks the halfway point of the six-round series for the CRF150R riders.
Emil Weckman (FIN) and Jack Bintcliffe (GBR) are strong contenders in the series and will both will be looking to leave Germany with the championship lead. Following closely in the overall standings is Albin Larsen (SWE) and Tim Edberg (SWE), who will also be hoping to score big points at the East German track of Teutschenthal.
Yago Martinez (ESP) will be looking to continue his good form that saw him nearly take the first moto victory at Matterley Basin, in the UK, last month. The young Spanish rider has shown that he could be a dark horse in the championship running.
Eric Schwella, who has a wildcard ride for the weekend, will also be one to watch, after the young German took second overall at his home event last year and is bound to be cheered on, along with fellow Germans Bennet Schaefer and wildcard Pascal Jungmann, by the home crowd.
Going into the third round of the championship, the top-three championship standings are currently:
1. | Emil Weckman | 90 pts |
2. | Jack Bintcliffe | 79 pts |
3. | Albin Larsen | 79 pts |
Davy Dousselaere – Honda Europe off-road manager
"Teutschenthal is a well prepared track with a lot of different jumps and elevation changes that work quite well with the style of racing in the Honda 150 European Championship. After the first two races, the top four riders are still quite close together in the championship with Emil and Jack sharing the heat wins. I wouldn't discount Albin though who took third place in Germany last year or Yago who has progressed with each round, almost taking the first heat win in the UK. It will also be interesting to see how the two wildcards get on, especially with Eric who took second overall at his home event last year, I expect him to be at the front again this year. So again, we have all the ingredients for some close racing at the East German track”.
