INCIDENT UPDATE: Weston Beach Race
By TMX Archives on 12th Oct 09

A collision between competitors in yesterday's main solo event at the Weston Beach Race caused the race to be halted, as onsite medical teams dealt with a number of riders injured in the incident. Event medical teams transported 17 riders to hospitals in Weston-super-Mare and Bristol, where they received further treatment for their injuries.
One rider sustained more severe head and leg injuries in the incident and was transferred to Frenchay hospital in Bristol, where he is currently under observation in the Frenchay Hospital ITU.
Contrary to recent reports, it has been confirmed that injuries were confined to competitors in the race, and no spectators were involved or injured in the incident.
"Our thoughts are with the riders who were injured in yesterday's Beach Race incident and we wish them all a full and speedy recovery," said Gareth Hockey from event organisers, RHL Activities.
Updated information on the condition of the riders injured in yesterday's incident at the Weston Beach Race will be posted on the official event website at www.wbruk.com as and when it becomes available.
