REACHING its milestone 50th anniversary, the Wolverhampton and DAC celebrated this special birthday by hosting the second round of the IMBA European Sidecar-cross championship and opening round of the AMCA solo motocross series at Cleobury Mortimer on Sunday.
Renowned for its organisational skills, the Wolves club started the birthday bash with a stunning fireworks display on Saturday evening and had already on site a small trade village and catering facilities to ensure everyone was entertained.
However, the awful wet English weather decided to intervene and become the party pooper, ruining Sunday's proceedings and eventually dictating a premature halt to racing.
In the moto's that were completed, Phil Mercer got his MX2 championship quest off to a flier, earning a brace of victories while reigning MX1 champion, David Campbell, and comeback king, the legendary Gary Davies, shared the MX1 wins.
For the IMBA sidecar lads, just one moto was completed, and Russians Yevgeni Scherbinin/ Sergei Sosnovskikh, representing the Czech Republic, took the win.
In that completed IMBA sidecar race, the line-up featured for the first time, two crews representing the UISP Italian federation.

Opening the AMCA solo championship season, a very focussed Phil Mercer led the first MX2 clash with Jamie Dobson in hot pursuit.
As the moto settled down and Mercer extended his advantage at the front, all eyes were on battles further downfield with Lee Dunham charging particularly hard. From well outside the top ten places he began reeling in the leading pack.
Despite the atrocious conditions, Lee got back to a superb third at the flag behind a stylish and comfortable winner Mercer with Matt Porter in second.
