It's an EVOlution Beta

BETA shocked the trials world by launching an all-new trials model at the final round of the 2008 World Trials Championship in Spain at the weekend.
Named the EVO (for evolution) the new model, or to be accurate, range of models, will comprise 125, 200, 250, 290 and of course a four-stroke and will replace the old-favourite REV3 range.
Beta remains faithful to the aluminium chassis concept which started with the ground-breaking Zero model, was refined with the Techno, morphed into the REV3 in 2000 and now we have the EVO.
Basis of the EVO is the unique single beam frame which replaces the previous twin-beam type but again doubles as the fuel tank and which Beta claims is both lighter and stronger than previous models.
But just as important as the radical-looking chassis is a return to a linkage type rear suspension after nine years of the linkless REV3 which Beta noticeably improved, year on year.
T+MX asked Beta importer John Lampkin why the return to a link-system and John said, "Beta thought that it had gone as far as it could with the linkless system, which had been a great success. The link system should work better on really big steps and the factory feel this is the way to go forward.”
Up front are a set of new Paioli forks, built in partnership with Beta, which are very light and feature equally lightweight triple clamps and handlebar mounts.
The engines are mounted higher in the frame for improved dynamics and the two-strokes now sport an expansion-box type front exhaust for improved performance. Inside the engine, a new con-rod and piston reduces weight by a claimed 30 per cent which obviously reduces the reciprocating mass and should result in less vibration and improved throttle response. The airbox is of improved design, for more consistent carburetion, while a completely new rear brake and operating system should lay to rest forever the old Beta rear brake moans!
The two-stroke will be available for sale at the end of October with the four-stroke expected by the end of the year.
This is an exciting development both for Beta and for trials. Check out Trials Torque for more info and pics on this brand new Italian stallion...
