It's make or break time for Knighter

BRITAIN'S David Knight faces what is arguably his most important race of the year this coming weekend when he competes in the 13th and final round of the US GNCC series.

Bringing to an end his first full-season of GNCC racing, Knighter can afford none of the costly mistakes that have prevented him from already claiming the 2007 GNCC title, as he needs an eighth or better result if his nearest championship rival Barry Hawk finishes the race.

I guess my whole season is about this one race, commented David before heading once again from his home in the Isle of Man to the States. Things are pretty tight in the championship but at least I'm the one leading. It's been a long championship and one I should have won by now but hopefully everything will go well this weekend.

From a strong runner-up result at the first round of the series, Knighter's season has been one of numerous highs and seemingly just as many lows. Scoring no points at round two due to carrying a hand injury, and a mediocre fifth at round three saw David switch back to a four-stroke after competing on a 250cc two-stroke at the start of the championship.

Winning rounds four and five, David looked to have put his bad luck behind him and, despite finishing fourth at round six, went on to win rounds seven and eight before mechanical troubles dropped him out of the points at round nine. First at round 10, eighth at round 11 David won the penultimate round of the series and sits 21 points ahead in the overall GNCC series standings.

I know I don't need to win the last round of the series but it would be nice to end the year with a good result. Out front is often the best place to be, especially if the race is going to be as dusty as the last round.

David needs to finish 12th or higher if Hawk wins the race.
