Jack Sheppard postpones surgery

Jitsie Beta Factory rider Jack Sheppard has been informed his continuing wrist injury will need surgery.
Jack has recently undergone numerous x-rays and scans to determine the cause of the wrist injury. After visiting a specialist in Belgium the problem has been diagnosed as Kienbock's disease or avascular necrosis of the lunate bone. Jack will delay the operation for as long as possible whilst he continues with both his domestic and World championship campaigns.
Even with this problem Jack has performed incredibly well, recording some brilliant results in the British championship and is leading his class in both the European and World series.
A recovery time of six to eight weeks means there is not sufficient time at this point in the season for surgery. Sheppard has been advised to only ride when crucial so as not to worsen the condition.
Despite the injury and limited practice time available he is still confident he can pose a serious threat in the various championships.
"Obviously I'm absolutely gutted to be given this news at this early point in the season. My wrist has been causing me some issues since the start of the year and I have to take painkillers to be able to ride. At the moment I am having monthly check ups to monitor it's state. Providing it doesn't get any worse I'm confident I will be able to manage my riding and continue to be competitive in each of the three championships. Although this injury is disappointing it is part and parcel of what I do – I just need to make sure I don't push too hard,”
Provided the condition does not deteriorate Jack will undergo surgery at the end of the season.
The next competitive outing is the fourth round of the ACU British Trials Championship (June 12) at Neath, South Wales. Sheppard then heads to Spain and Andorra for back to back World / European events.
