James Fry and mighty

SAFELY ahead after five rounds in the current Novogar championship, James Fry added Sunday's Mid Wales Centre's sixth round event, again organised by the Llanfyllin club in its Foel Forest complex to his list of wins, but by a very narrow two cleans margin ahead of Birkett Scorpa ace John Crinson.
A superbly ridden clean first 20 section trip through a small part of the 5,000 acre forest gave Fry a one mark lead over Crinson who lost his only mark in section 17. This was matched only by Alex Price who slipped up on the first section of the event. Both riders were one clear of multi Welsh champion, Gary Jenkins, who again held off his nearest rival in Wales, Miles Jones, who later recorded the best second punch card total with a one mark lost. However, that came too late as Fry recorded a relatively high four marks, beaten by Crinson on three, but that first clean card saved the day for Fry by those two valuable cleans.
Also adding three to his total, Jenkins eventually matched Jones on five mark totals, but won the battle by an even closer margin of one clean.
Josh Woods went into double figures with a one minute time penalty but ahead of Simon Welch by two and far ahead of former Novogar winner, Chris Pearson, and Dan Farrer, level on 17 in that order but separated by two cleans, and two ahead of first card ace Price who managed to squander 18 marks on his second circuit.
Obviously enjoying Welsh rockery, Michael James added top marks in the Over 40 class, matching his superb Lomax Trial win, this time ahead of Ashley Hall whose only previous Novogar this year was the Colmore where he recorded fifth place, but on Sunday two ahead of series runner-up Mick Boam and John Cowley who easily coped with 2007 Over 40 champ, Richard Allen, who even after his fifth place on Sunday has reached the magic ton on total points and still leads the series.
