Karr crash

The ever-smiling Matiss Karro survived when others around him were crashing and burning, to top the MX1 class at round two of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship at the legendary Canada Heights circuit in Kent.

While Karro was doing what it takes in the MX1 class, Elliott Banks-Browne overcame a shaky first race to notch up two wins and the overall in the MX2 class.

Series favourite, Arnaud Tonus joined fellow Monster Energy Bike It Yamaha rider Zak Osborne on the injured list, after a first-lap first-race crash which took out Graeme Irwin for the day.

The Sidcup club had put in a lot of time effort over the winter, with the help of ex-racer Richard Rose on the earth-moving equipment.

The track now includes a new bombhole at the top of the track and refaced jumps around the rest of the circuit, but these changes were not to everyone's taste.

Karro was a man on a mission from the start of Sunday's race day, as he set the fastest qualifying time then claimed Superpole from Shaun Simpson, and series leader Kevin Strijbos.

Stephen Sword has upped his pace and led into turn one with Alex Snow in his wheel tracks, as Marc De Reuver slotted in to third spot and was checking out the two leaders' lines in readiness to pounce.

Shaun Simpson was fourth, with local lad Dorron Coutts on his tail, just one place ahead of the still-recovering Kristian Whatley.

With three laps gone and as Sword opened up a bit of a lead, De Reuver, Simpson and Whatley had all found a way past Snow, as Jason Dougan and Gert Krestinov started making their way towards the front.

With four laps to go DeReuver had caught and passed Sword for the lead and the win.

Simpson was less than two seconds behind the leaders, with Whatley a distant fourth, as Krestinov overhauled Dougan for fifth.

Race two was all about Karro as he grabbed the holeshot and managed to keep the fast Strijbos behind him to the chequered flag.

The leading pair had survived an earlier clash which saw both of them having to remount, after following a back-marker into one of the sandy grooves and hitting him.

They remounted in the same order, while the back-marker carried on regardless.

Sword had a lonely race in third, finishing thirty seconds behind the leaders, while Martin Barr moved up from sixth at the start to finish fourth.
