WORLD Junior champion, Matiss Karro, is out of action for the upcoming GPs with a broken bone in his hand. First guesstimates suggest he will be out for six weeks... and the Latvian GP is on June 27/28!

The MVR-D Suzuki teenager has certainly been in the wars since his double victory at the Brampton British Championship round at the start of the May.

In Portugal he hurt his ankle and a start in Spain seemed doubtful for most of the week beforehand.

However, the inflammation receded in time to make it worthwhile flying to Catalunya, where he battled hard from a moderate start in race one to grab three points for 18th.

Luck was not on his side at Bellpuig however. Matiss was pulled down in the pile-up at turn one in the second moto - started by wild card Jose Butron, which also claimed series leader Gautier Paulin - but was recovering more quickly than any of the other fallers and had reached 24th, nibbling at the points before an innocuous-looking fall left him with the broken bone just under his thumb.

The very first Latvian MX1/MX2 GP at Kegums clearly has to be one target, but every effort is being made to give the teenager hope of contesting the next round of the British championship at Hawkstone Park on June 14, as Matiss trails Stephen Sword by just 16-points in the MX2 standings.

Matiss has cancelled home leave in Latvia and MVR-D team owner, Mark Chamberlain, has already booked time in a hyperbaric chamber to in an effort shorten the recovery period.

Having lost the services of James Noble a fortnight ago, MVR-D Suzuki will be looking to Carl Nunn, their man in the UK, to carry the team colours at the Mallory Park GP next week.
