King Kurt’s on top of the world

Kurt Nicoll took the World Vets Over 50 title at Glen Helen on Sunday, racing to a dominant 1-1 after winning the first moto by over a minute.
The previous day the four-time world 500cc vice-champion finished second in the Over 40 category with 2-2 scores behind Kiwi Daryl Hurley.
"I was really happy with my riding all weekend,” said Nicoll. "I narrowly missed winning the Over 40 title on Saturday, just missing out to Darryl Hurley who is 12 years younger than me!
"I think that put me in great shape for the Sunday Over 50 pro race and I always felt very comfortable. I holeshot both the races and led every lap. I won Over 40 in 2015 and I'm really pumped to add the Over 50 title this year.”
Brian Wheeler made the journey to California for the event and ran 8-7 in the Over 40 class for seventh overall.
DBR contributor and SR75 World Team boss Geoff Walker also contested the Over 40 class and was typically upbeat about his performance.
"I'm a bit beat up but got what I came for – top 20 at the World Vets after a couple of fairly brutal, one-handed motos,” he said. "Being old means you can simply make things up so I have given myself the fully fabricated title of ‘250 World Vet Champ' as first – and only – 250 across the line.”
