LADIES DAY IN DEVON
By TMX Archives on 6th Aug 08
BRITISH Ladies Trials Champion Becky Cook caught the ferry back to the Isle of Wight on Sunday night with the knowledge that she had won the sixth round of the current title chase at Peter Tavy, near Tavistock, and, with it the ACU Ladies Trials crown for another year, Earlier in the day Cook beat Donna Fox by 11-marks, with Emma Bristow a further two-marks in arrears in third place.
In fact Joanne Coles, Nikita Smith and Emma Morphett emulated Cook's championship victory in their respective Youth A, Youth C and Ladies Inter classes.
Staged by the Torridge club, which also ran a motocross on the same day, the title contestants faced three-laps of a dozen sections at often bleak and unwelcoming Brousentor Farm.
Cook lost a dozen marks on her first lap, which was five less than Fox and seven less than Bristow.
Cook and Fox both fived the eighth sub on the first lap which featured a climb over rock steps which were a foot apart.
Becky Cook doing what she does best, winning trials, and this time it helped her retain the ACU Ladies championship.
Attempting to save a couple of marks, Becky got her feet down, but her back wheel dropped into a crevice, and where Donna was concerned it was a good job that her minder Robin Morewood happened to be near at hand. Bristow was brilliant though with a two mark debit.
The 11th sub, a climb over mud and rocks, claimed marks from all three challengers and also from Saskia Baxter.
