Lakes Two Day Trial - Day one

THE opening day of the Lakes Two Day trial at Broughton in Furness, Cumbria, saw the 184 strong entry enjoy a superb loop out onto the Corney and Bootle fells in glorious sunshine. And enjoying his day in the sun to lead overnight was Gas Gas UK rider and former Lakes winner Alexz Wigg who dropped just five marks through the 40 sections.

But it was only a narrow, single mark advantage over man of the moment, Beta mounted Iwan Roberts, who in turn had ever consistent Sam Haslam, Richard Sadler and last year's third placeman Ross Danby breathing down his neck.

The Clubman class is always impossible to predict but Phil Houghton from Wrexham had a great day on his Montesa, parting with just six from Ulster's Jonathan Hagan, Mark Reynolds and Nick Shield.
