Dougie Lampkin and Gas Gas were once again the star of the show as Lampkin's image was broadcast to millions of homes Sunday night, as his recent exploits in the famous BBC Television Centre were aired on BBC TWO's flagship programme Top Gear.
The second episode of the latest series that is broadcast at primetime each Sunday evening and regularly attracts over six million viewers, featured Lampkin going head to head in a race to the roof of one of London's most iconic buildings.
Introduced and adjudicated by Top Gear presenter James May and saluted by his colleagues Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, Lampkin was the eventual winner of the race against the two highly regarded free runners. Dougie's route from the gatehouse to the roof took him through various instantly recognisable sections of the sprawling building where some of the World's most famous TV programmes have been filmed over the years.
Speaking about his Sunday night appearance on primetime TV Dougie said. "When I got the initial call to be involved in the project I didn't need a second invitation to be part of what was an amazing couple of days. Top Gear is a great programme and is known around the World, as is the BBC and the Television Centre, so it was a no brainer."
"Putting all the sequences together took a lot of planning and effort and included many hours of filming to end up with an edit that is just a few minutes long. I was actually traveling back from the Italian Trial GP last night, so I only got to see the finished programme earlier today."
"Having watched it through a few times now, I am really pleased with how it turned out and would like to thank everyone who was involved in pulling it all together."
Lampkin rounded off by explaining. "Judging by the response on Twitter and Facebook, my phone went mad when I switched it back on after I landed late last night, it has gone down well with the viewers too, which is what it is all about in the end."
