Lassu ropes Polesworth win
By TMX Archives on 28th Jan 09

ROUND four of the Moto Goo Championship at Stipers Hill, near Polesworth, started off as a bit of a muddy affair but, after the opening block of racing had been carded, it all settled down nicely, delivering yet another superb day of winter racing. As in previous rounds, the Adult Two and Four-stroke competitors lined up as one but were scored separately. James Lassu was sporting a new set of colours, having recently switched to Honda machinery, and he gave the new marque a cracking debut taking the opening race win from a flu-laden and somewhat de-tuned Josh Spinks.
In the second of the races, Richie Worral got away to a real flier on the KTM and never looked back as Lassu piled on the pressure, coming home in second. Race three replicated the opener with Lassu taking the chequers ahead of Josh Spinks with Marc Dean and Richie Worral being the next two guys over the line in their respective sections.
Luke Houghton, another guy who has recently converted to the Honda, was on the way to a totally convincing and spectacular set of three race wins in the Youth 125cc section when it all went pear shaped as he bailed out in a big way in the closing stages of race three. Luke went home a little bit dizzy as Chris Povey romped home to claim the final race win, capping his day's efforts with the overall win. Craig Maddock and Dean Hakes claimed second and third place overall.
In the combined 85cc races, Big-wheel pilot, Jordan Wills, again showed his liking of the Polesworth course, producing another dominant display by taking three superb race wins. He had to fight hard however to get the better of Dan Thornhill in race one as the ACU academy youngster flew out of the traps like a scalded cat leading until the closing stages. Emerson Jones with a really competent 2-3-2 card took a well deserved runners-up spot.
In the Small-wheels Robert Yates, Jordan Pyne and Rob Holyoak fought tooth and nail all afternoon in the middle of the Big-wheel action, and after a few recounts Robert Yates took the honours with just a four point difference covering first to third place.
David Keet finished top of the pile in the Junior 65s, but he had to battle hard to get the nod over William Keough, especially in the final race of the day which proved to be a real nail biter all the way to the flag. Mitchell Warhurst again put in a solid performance for third place overall.
The Novice Junior 65cc class rode in the same race and acquitted themselves really well as Matthew Leadham shone brightest ably supported by Bradley Sullivan and six year old Charlie Kent.
Luke Woodhouse totally cleaned up, scoring maximum points in the Auto Big-wheels as they toughed it out bravely around the full course. Daniel Breen claimed second place from Zac Clarke in third and Jamie Evans was really unlucky in fourth following two good second place rides.
