Matterley’s Euro vision

Motocross

Britain won the battle, but Italy won the war in the Honda 150F Cup.

150F

High-jumping Dane Michael Jorgensen was gaining seconds in the air, but Albie Wilkie was more than his master through the turns to secure a comfortable win.

Sadly the young Brit had not contested the opening round in Germany and had no chance of securing the tittle.
Britain's candidate for that honour was Mitchell Lewis, but his chances were soon gone as the front wheel broke up after holding second for two laps.

This left the youngster from Kent to watch as Italian Filippo Grigoletto clinched an EMX2 ride next year with Gariboldi Honda.

Amateur

The Monster Energy Grand Prix attracted no less than 46 entries for the Amateur class, and the action was fast and furious in both qualification and the abbreviated race for the cash.

Josh Waterman, James Dodd and Jake Millward confirmed their favourite role in the qualifying race.

And they were again in front in that order in the dash for the cash when leader Waterman, his exhaust already pumping out a tell-tale puff of smoke, had the most horrific crash over the finish-line ‘double'.

The race was immediately red-flagged, and Josh was carted off with a broken jaw.

But with just over half the race run, the result stood at completion of the previous lap and at least the Oakleaf Kawasaki rider had the consolation of the big cheque.

Euro 65cc

Dutch youngster Raivo Dankers was in a class of his own in the Euro 65cc category, several seconds a lap faster than his opposition in both the dry and on a muddy Sunday morning.

The European EMX65 youngsters had their heads, their hearts and their skills tested on Sunday, as they were the first race of the packed schedule to take on the muddy clay circuit.

Britain's Kacey Hird was the best of those who were not jumping everything.

Sixth in qualification, the lone Brit finished eighth in each moto for sixth overall.

Winner Dankers could be the next Jeffery Herlings, especially after showing a stellar performance in the opening moto, winning by over a minute in very challenging conditions to be crowned European EMX65 Champion.

Meanwhile, Rene Hofer taking second place in the mud of race two.

The young Austrian rode the wheels off his little KTM to finish a massive 48 seconds ahead of Spaniard David Braceras in third.

Despite a few little crashes on the slippery off-camber corners, Italian Kevin Cristino took fourth with Russian Timur Petrashin rounding out the top five.
