IN conditions that were so remarkably dry that even dust clouds were rising, Berkeley Heath AMCA motocross club held its opening meeting of the 2007 season at Rockhampton, on Sunday. Indeed, following the very wet winter we have just endured, to witnessa hard, dry track this early in the campaign must be a major concernfor all clubs as the summer months approach. The exceedingly dry goingmeant slick patches on both the inside and outside of all corners, thusdramatically reducing the actual racing line available. So, carefulthrottle control and braking were essential in the battle for thesilverware on offer. First out onto the Rockhampton track was the Openclass Experts, with Richard Meakin taking top honours. Having recentlyswitched from 250cc two-stroke to 450cc four-stroke power, Meakin wasimpressive aboard his new big Honda, just edging out anotherred-powered rider Gavin Hookham. However, although Meakin and Hookhamtook the top two places, it was 250F rider Lee Dunham who was the mainman with a brace of moto wins.
