Monster Mountain in South Wales hosts the final stop of the 2023 Revo ACU British Motocross Championship tour this weekend (September 9/10) with champions set to be crowned in all classes.

The MX1 title chase has boiled down to a three-way scrap between current MX2 British Champion Conrad Mewse, his Crendon Fastrack Honda teammate Josh Gilbert and third-placed Harri Kullas on the CAB Screens Crescent Yamaha. Sitting on a 25-point lead, Mewse could secure the title in the first moto provided he finishes ahead of Gilbert. The fight for second is much closer though with just eight points separating Gilbert and Kullas. Can the Estonian rider break the Honda team’s dominance of the UK scene in 2023?

VMXdN Foxhill hero Evgeny Bobryshev (SC Sporthomes Husqvarna) sits a safe fourth in points but is too far in arrears to challenge any of the top three. He could potentially be a spoiler though and has the pace to run up front. Tristan Purdon (SS24 Gabriel KTM) currently holds down fifth in the championship with Scot John Adamson (ASA United GASGAS) 12 points behind.

Current MX1 champion Tommy Searle (GTCI Revo Kawasaki) is seventh in points currently but couldn’t care less about his final ranking and will race the MX2 class at Monster Mountain.

He’s sure the be leapfrogged by Brad Todd (DK Offroad Honda) and James Carpenter (CAB Screens Crescent Yamaha) who are on 115 and 114 points in eighth and ninth place in the championship. Expect those two to be going hard at it in Wales.

Isak Gifting (426 Motorsports/Stebbings GASGAS) is more or less assured to take the MX2 title as he sits 42 points clear of Taylor Hammal (SS24 Gabriel KTM). It’d take a disastrous day for the Swede for him to hand the crown to the Hampshireman but stranger things have happened. Hammal has a 10-point advantage over third-placed Elliott Banks-Browne – the two-time British MX2 champion making an amazing comeback in 2023 on a SC Sporthomes Husqvarna.

ASA United GASGAS runner Bobby Bruce currently sits fourth in points after missing the previous round due to a wrist injury. Regardless of whether he’s able to ride the final round or not, Bruce looks assured of fourth as fifth-placed Carlton Husband (Phoenix Even Strokes Kawasaki) is 40 points in arrears. The recently crowned MX Nationals champ will need to keep an eye on sixth-placed Jamie Wainright who showed a lot of pace at Monster Mountain earlier in the season and is only two points behind in the series standings.

But don’t be surprised to see the usual faces eclipsed this weekend by MX2 wildcards as Tommy Searle drops down to the 250 class for a bit of fun where potentially he’ll go up against GTCI Revo teammate Billy Askew who made his Pro MX2 debut with the MX Nationals series at Hawkstone Park. On the brink of taking the 250 Youth crown, could Billy tie that up on Saturday and race in MX2 on Sunday? Yes, he could. Will he? We’ll have to wait and see as there’s no official confirmation forthcoming. The other rider who could challenge for the win is former GTCI Revo Kawasaki Dylan Walsh who has been showing great pace in recent weeks on a KTM. Any one of these three could challenge for a podium on the day – it will add a lot of excitement to the MX2 action.

Youth titles will be decided at Monster Mountain too. Askew should take the 250cc title without too much effort with DK Offroad’s Mckenzie Marshall looking set to secure the runner-up spot. He has a nice 27-point advantage over third-placed Liam Bennett.

The 125cc championship that shares the track with the 250 class sees SJP Moto KTM’s Reece Jones enter the final round 34 points ahead of Wal Beaney. It’s a two-horse race for the championship title with all others already mathematically eliminated. Wesley Mcgavin and Ollie Bubb still have to settle third place and Tyla Hooley and Jake Walker should also be in the mix too.

Josh Vail has been on fire in the BW85 class this year and holds a 53-point advantage over Charlie Richmond who has Cumbrian youngster Jamie Keith knocking on his back door. Six points separates second and third meaning it truly is a final round showdown. Vail, meanwhile, will be looking to clinch the title on Saturday afternoon.

The SW85 ran a shortened series in 2023 as early season qualifying rounds were run to ensure the cream of the crop battled it out for championship points. After two rounds of three, Wigan’s Joel Winstanley-Dawson leads the way with a 17-point advantage over Jenson Severn. Arthur Moore looks settled safely in third with Chase Panter and Archie Butterfield next in line. Lucas Lee will be looking to make up for a Schoolhouse DNF and could be the dangerman to secure the first of the non-podium championship positions.

The 65cc class are also on the short schedule but that hasn’t stopped Harley Marczak from eking out a 23-point lead over Casey Lister and Cohen Jagielski who are tied for second. Between them, the top three have pretty much locked out the podium positions with only Nixon Coppins breaking their domination of the top three places. Coppins currently sits fourth in points ahead of Arthur King and Teddy Merriman.

Monster Mountain can be found to the East of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. The postcode you need is CF48 4AE or if you’re more of a What3Words kinda person then stooping.throw.summaries will get you where you need to be.

The Youth action kicks off bright and early on Saturday morning but the Pro classes only race on Sunday. The rough schedule is Practice and Qualifying from 08:45 with the Youth races getting underway at 09:55. The first MX1 race leaves the line at 12:35 with MX2 starting 50 minutes later. The podium presentations will start 30 minutes after the last race finishes so that’ll be somewhere in the region of 16:45.
