TMX alumni David Dewhurst presents an all-new book Motocross the Golden Era which chronicles some of the early eighties' greatest machines, moments and racers from both sides of the Atlantic making it an absolute must-have for all retro racing fans...

Back in 1977, a photographer for the Morecambe Visitor the now decaying seaside towns local rag convinced the publishing companys bigwigs that there was an appetite for a weekly off-road newspaper. That man was David Dewhurst and he became an integral part of the original line-up of superheroes whod take TMX to dizzying heights of success.

As it turns out, Dewhurst proved to be the ultimate off-road journalistic all-rounder he could ride, write, shoot photos, understood the intricate inner workings of dirt bikes and had an awesome pornstar stache.

After a few years of injecting a whole load of awesome into the pages of TMX, the lure of SoCal proved too much and so David and his wife shipped out to the States and a new role at Cycle Guide magazine.

This was at a time when America was becoming the global powerhouse for motocross and with the sport booming Stateside David was in the right place at the right time to pack his archives with killer photographs while making all the right contacts.

But then he disappeared, not literally of course but from the off-road scene at least, as David concentrated on creating outstanding imagery for the automotive industry with his clients including Lexus, Honda, Chrysler and even Land Rover.

Fast forward to Covid times and rumours were running rife that David was looking at utilising his huge back-catalogue to create a book. And realising he had the best images from the best era of motocross it became inevitable that the book would become a masterpiece Motocross the Golden Era was born.

The coffee-table book is 480-pages in length and features 600 photographs and 28 chapters, 11 of which are dedicated to some of the sports greatest champions David Bailey, Bob Hannah, Ricky Johnson, Broc Glover, David Thorpe, Brad Lackey, Marty Smith, Gary Jones, Jeff Ward, Mark Barnett and Roger DeCoster. It really is a thing of beauty and is oh-so informative and entertaining too which makes it a must-own item for all motocross fans.
