MX Diary: Guillod team split shocker

Standing Construct has sensationally parted with Valentin Guillod.

The Belgian team and the 2015 MX2 world No.4 had intended to make the step to MXGP together but differences of opinion, above all concerning preparation, have led them to go their separate ways.

Apparently the team wanted Guillod to undertake an intense preparation in sand – his weakness last year – while the 23-year-old Swiss rider and his mentor Yves Demaria favoured a winter of supercross in Genova, Lille and Geneva.

"We spent this summer an agreement for next season,” he explained.

"But recently the team wished to change our organisation, my winter preparation and wanted to impose things that we had not discussed previously and which does not suit me.

"We therefore prefer to separate and we work to find a solution for next season with Yamaha.

"I thank the team Standing Construct. We achieved good results in recent years and I wish them good luck for the future while being disappointed with the manner in which this collaboration ends.”

Guillod currently has no secure plans but has a contract with Yamaha Europe for the next two years so will clearly be placed.

Standing Construct will continue in MX2 with Sascha Tonkov and Julien Lieber.
