MX Diary: Masters head to Landrake
By Dick Law on 1st Jun 16
Round three of the Pirelli British Masters series takes place this weekend (June 4-5) at the super-fast Landrake Moto Parc in Cornwall where once again Buildbase Honda will be the team to beat in both Pro MX1 and MX2 classes.
Kristian Whatley has an eight-point lead over his on-form team-mate Graeme Irwin in Pro MX1 after Irwin had a crash and a flat rear tyre in the second race at the previous round at Brookthorpe. Corie Southwood currently holds a distant third.
It's closer at the top of the Pro MX2 division with just 20 points separating the top four riders in the championship.
Martin Barr is leading the title chase for Buildbase Honda but round two winner Steven Clarke (Apico Husqvarna) is just 11 points behind him and only one ahead of his team-mate Bryan MacKenzie. Barr's team-mate Lewis Trickett is just 20 points off the lead with Brad Todd (Planet Husqvarna) a further eight adrift.
Brad Cavill has a 40-point lead over Henry Siddiqui in the Amateur MX1 class and 23 points separate Michael Ellis and Oli Benton in Amateur MX2.
Corey Hockey won all four of the 125cc races at Brookthorpe and will look to increase his lead over Thomas Kirk this weekend.
As for the youth riders, Howard Wainwright and Drew Roe have been sharing the wins in MXY2 – apart from a single win by Mitchell Warhurst at round two – and are first and second in the championship with Warhurst third.
In the BW85cc division Dominic Lancett has a massive 61-point lead over Jamie Smith while Jack Lindsay is 32 points clear of Aaron Brown the SW85cc class.
Alfie Jones has won all eight races in the 65s so far this year but Billy Moriarty is keeping him honest and waiting to pounce at any sign of weakness.
Landrake is located just off the A38 west of Saltash. Postcode is PL12 5EP.
