MX Diary: Pit stop gossip...
By Sean Lawless on 9th Mar 16
Check out all the gossip from this week's Motocross Diary
* Those who thought last weekend's Thai GP was hot had better start ordering the ice packs for the next three years. Youthstream CEO Giuseppe Luongo has signed a three-year deal which will take MXGP to Pangkalpinang, slap bang on the Equator and not far from the Indonesian capital Jakarta. Qatar-Thailand-Indonesia will start MXGP for the next three years!
* Tommy Searle was decidedly under the weather at the weekend. "Of all the places to catch the flu,” he said. "I must have caught it on the plane. I'll just save my energy on Saturday and hope for the best on Sunday.”
The Brit reported voluntarily to the FIM doctor to ask advice but Czech medic Martin Sycirek advised that he could only prescribe paracetamol.
Tommy finished 10th with two tremendous efforts to survive the Thai GP for the first time in three years.
* All riders who intend a comeback from injury now have to report to the FIM track doctor at 4.30pm on Fridays. No check-up, no race!
*Calvin Vlaanderen was a non-starter for HSF after turning his ankle in Qatar. Roberts Justs flew in to Thailand to take over his ride. The South African was back on the bike this week.
* AMCA Director and Newport Club Chairman Roy Pugh passed away on Friday morning after a hard-fought battle against cancer. Our thoughts are with Betty, Rachel and the family.
* The AMCA has four MX events to choose from plus a practice this Sunday (March 13). Races are North Staffs at Lower Drayton, Newport at Long Lane, Shrewsbury at Condover and Polesworth at Stipers Hill. The practice is Mid Wilts at Bushton.
* Vale MXC is looking for marshals. Anyone interested – and the club pays marshals – should contact the club via its Facebook page.
* Portsmouth MXC has made a change to its 2016 calendar and the meeting on September 11 will now be held at Binstead.
* The opening round of Poole & Parkstone's new series will now be held at Waterstone Ridge near Dorchester. After the meeting all Juniors will receive a trophy provided by One Twenty Motorsports.
Remember to bring your MCF licence number. Memberships are still available and visitors are welcome.
The club would like to thank One Twenty Motorsport, Future Racing UK, Poole Motorcycles and Cavemans Coaching for their sponsorship!
* Newton Le Willows will be using the Mylaps transponder system in 2016. If you already have a transponder email through its number to nlwmcc@hotmail.co.uk so the club can update its systems prior to the first event.
There will be transponders available for hire from the club on the day on a first-come, first-served basis. You'll need a valid driving licence with your name and address on.
Riders will need a Mylaps transponder if they want their position scoring. AMCA transponders are not standard and are not compatible.
The club will be training operators on the evening of March 15 near Bolton. If you want to join in email Chris at nlwmcc@hotmail.co.uk.
* Christchurch MX will be running at Crow on March 20 with a healthy haul of prize money up for grabs.
