MX Diary: Skuse leads the charge
By Dave Rich on 28th Apr 16
Round three of the Phoenix Tools South West Premier Motocross Championship, which incorporates round two of the Open Evo series, will be held at Little Silver Moto Parc, Exeter, on Sunday (May 1).
At the last round Jamie Skuse took over the Expert series lead and will be aiming to extend his 11-point advantage over Jordan Carter who sits in second ahead of the early championship leader Luke Dean.
Other riders hoping to do well include Sunny Thompson, Kelvin Townsend, Jake Penny, Joe Jeffries and Luke Craig. Tommy Alba, returning from injury, will make his first appearance in the series this year and will be joined by wildcards Liam Garland and Liam Knight.
In the Over 35s it's Wayne Shimell who heads the championship but there's just one point between Jonathan Morrissey and James Price in second and third so the battle will be on. Ben Harmon will be looking to claw back some ground after a damaged bike left him with no points from the last round.
The Over 40s is stacked with talent and they will be going all out to close the gap on Stuart Rawlings who leads by 16 points from Richard Green with Martyn Tucker just seven points further adrift.
David Ford has dominated the Over 50s so far this season and has yet to lose a race. Hoping to put a stop to his run of wins will be riders including Alan Packer, Dave Watson and Adrian Toy.
In the Open Evo championship it's Ricky Brown who leads the proceedings after the opening round from James Faulkner who sits just four points adrift with Andrew Williams one point further back.
Little Silver Moto Parc is an excellent viewing track with easy parking and will be signposted from the end of the M5. Postcode is EX6 7UD. First race is at 10.30am. There are still a few spaces available – call Greta on 01884 840078.
