Apico Husqvarna's Martin Barr secures season podium
By Team TMX on 8th Sep 22
At Oxford MotoParc, Apico Husqvarna celebrated another pro-class championship medal as their MX1 rider Martin Barr secured third place in the Michelin MX Nationals Leatt Pro MX1 Championship.
Barr went into the final round with third place in the standings, protecting a four-point lead over his nearest competitor. As the gate dropped on race one, Barr made a dive up the middle and cut to the inside to swap places with Tommy Searle in the opening laps, before settling into fourth position. While Searle pulled time on the front section of the all-new Oxford track, Barr was able to keep the Honda rider honest for much of the moto as he clawed time on the back section of the course.
After a hard season suffering from fatigue, it was good to see Barr at the front and showing his true speed. This is surely also good news for Team Ireland at the Motocross of Nations.
Martin Barr
In race two, Barr didnt manage to get the same solid start, though he got into a rhythm and rode his race in seventh place, fifth overall in MX1, sealing his third place in the championship.
"This weekend certainly had its highs and lows, we came into the final round of the championship looking at a potential three-rider third place finishes across three classes, unfortunately, this wasnt to be," said team boss Dylan Brown.
"Id like to congratulate Martin on finishing third in the Leatt Pro MX1 Championship, hes had a tough season with a mystery illness and hadnt managed a podium all season. After a consistent season, he's managed to finish third overall. That's a fantastic achievement for him and something Apico Husqvarna has not had in pro level racing since 2016."
Stuart Edmonds
MX1 team-mate Stuart Edmonds finished his MX Nationals season with a 10-8 scorecard for ninth overall. Apico's MX2 pilot Jamie Law had a blow to his championship medal hopes with a DNF in moto one and then 12th in the second moto in what was a competitive line-up at Oxford. He finished the season fourth in the standings, 24 points off third place.
Jamie Law
"Jamie was unfortunate to have bike problems which caused a DNF and then bad luck in the last race to finish his season fourth, added Brown. "That said, at 36 this has been his best professional season finish to date. With a podium at the previous round of the Michelin MX Nationals and two in the Revo British championship, hes had a fantastic season and brought the best results in for the team. Not bad for one of the oldest pro riders out there competing in both British championships."
Apico Husqvarna is in action one more time in the 2022 motocross season as they head to Landrake this weekend for the finale of the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship Fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels.
