2020 MXGP of France postponed - Saint-Jean d'Angely
By Team TMX on 13th Mar 20
The MXGP of France has been postponed according to a report in Europe. If confirmed it's the fifth MXGP event to be postponed on the 2020 Motocross World Championship schedule.
After rounds in Italy, Argentina, Spain and Portugal were pushed back to later in the year, the MXGP of France was the next world championship race moto fans could look forward to, but hope now looks to be gone with the report that the May 10 round set for Saint-Jean d'Angely will also be postponed.
MotocrossMag reports that the local organiser (Moto Club Angerien) has taken the decision to postpone the French MXGP round. They quote the club as saying that it was mainly due to "organisational uncertainty" over the coronavirus outbreak.
MC Angerien chairman Jean-Marie Boissonnot: After obtaining advice from the prefecture, it turned out that the organization of our competition could be banned up to two days beforehand. This in the context of protecting the health of the public, volunteers, drivers and officials. That's why we made the decision to cancel the game scheduled for May 9-10. We will keep you informed of the new date. We aim for the end of June for this.
Earlier today the Fdration Franaise de Motocyclisme (FFM) put out a statement announcing the cancellation of all motorcycle competitions in the 'national territory' until further notice.
This follows the measure announced by the French prime minister on March 13, regarding the ban on meetings of more than 100 people.
The entire motorcycle sport community must stand in solidarity with the national effort in the face of this exceptional health situation, the statement ended.
We will update this story once we have confirmation from the FIM/Infront Moto Racing.
