MXGP Teutschenthal

Jorge Prado has been stretchered off the Teutschenthal circuit at the MXGP of Germany after crashing with teammate Jeffrey Herlings as they both took the chequered flag fractions of a second apart.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racings Prado took the early lead in the opening MXGP race with the top title contenders in pursuit. Herlings quickly made his way past the young Spaniard, but before long, Prado struck back.

Both Kawasaki Racing's Romain Febvre and Team HRC's Tim Gajser had a nibble at Herlings as the laps clicked off before the Dutchman found some extra pace.

Herlings then set about reeling in Prado, and on the final lap, they wrestled for the lead.

The four-time world champion almost got the job done, but Prado held him off. Then, as they jumped the finish line at took the chequers, Herlings went straight, while Prado appeared to jump across. Herlings was left helpless as they crashed mid-air.

Herlings quickly got up and appeared to have a slight limp as he walked away from the carnage. Prado remained in the dirt as he held his legs, looking to be in some pain.

This is a breaking story, and when we hear more on the condition of the riders, we will update you here.

Update October 3, 17:00 BST: "I'm very lucky that I'm still racing," revealed Herlings after the Grand Prix of Germany. "My knee got a big impact and everything is fine with it I just had a big trauma and a lot of liquid in there so when I was riding I had so much pain. But I think after the impact [of the crash with Prado] it's not too bad.

"A two and a three [place finishes] is average, but especially after that second moto I was in pain. I heal up through the week and hope to be ready again for next weekend in France."

Update October 3, 15:05 BST: Red Bull KTM reports that Jeffrey Herlings is okay and will line up for race two. Moto one winner, Jorge Prado is out of the final moto of the day with a laceration and is getting attention to that injury.
