MXGP of Russia (MFR) cancelled
By Andrew Hill on 26th Feb 22
The FIM and MXGP rights holder Infront Moto Racing has elected to cancel the MXGP of MFR (Russia), initially set to be held on May 1, at Orlyonok.
MXGP is the latest FIM event linked with Russia to be axed as sport continues to cut ties with the country.
It follows today's earlier announcements that the Speedway GP of MFR and the Bucha-Kiev (Ukraine) round of the FIM SidecarCross World Championship had been axed.
FIM press release:
The Fdration Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) together with Infront Moto Racing announce that due to the current situation, it is not possible to hold the MXGP of MFR set to take place on 30th April / 1st May in Orlyonok.
The local Organizer has been informed.
The entire MXGP Collective thoughts are with the people suffering the consequences of the present situation.
A replacement Grand Prix will be announced shortly.
TMX had reached out to Infront on Friday and had been told an announcement would be made the following week. Clearly, there has been a need to react sooner.
Sporting governance around the world has been reacting to the situation in Ukraine. UEFA has pulled its final from Russia, moving the match to Paris, while F1 has cancelled the Russian Grand Prix which had been scheduled for the end of September.
While promoters and sporting bodies/agencies have offered their heartfelt thoughts for the people in Ukraine, they have not issued any condemnation of Russia.
