Tim Gajser takes 10th race win of season – increases points lead
By Press Release on 21st Oct 20
Team HRCs Tim Gajser extended his championship points lead to 55 points after his one-three race results at the MXGP of Limburg, held once again at the deep sand track of Lommel.
An excellent performance in race one, saw Gajser take another race win at what is the toughest circuit on the calendar. After his victory on Sunday, he was full of confidence, stalking the leader for two-thirds of the race before making his move in sweeping fashion. Once in the lead, he controlled the rest of the moto and took his 10th moto victory of this 2020 world championship campaign.
Race two was shaping up to be a repeat performance as he once again bided his time before moving into first position.
Unfortunately, soon after hed made the pass, he went slightly off the track and into one of the trackside banners. As he lost 20 seconds removing his bike, he also dropped into seventh position and with 15 minutes remaining, there was also the possibility of him losing his overall podium spot.
Instead, Gajser regrouped and put his head down, passing four riders in a display of speed and purpose that showed just how well he is riding his Honda CRF450RW.
His lap times were almost four seconds a lap quicker than the leaders and with just a few more minutes in the race, he would have been challenging for the one-one. Instead, his one-three was good enough for second overall, and another increase in his points gap from 47 to 55.
This means he is over one-full event ahead of his closest rivals and with just four rounds remaining, including another here at Lommel on Sunday, he is looking in a very strong position to take his fourth world championship title.
Tim Gajser: "Overall, Im quite happy with the day. My riding was good and my speed was good in both motos, I just made that small mistake after I passed Prado to go into the lead in race two. I didnt even crash, I just went off the track into the banners and lost 20 seconds."After that, I regrouped for a lap before picking up the speed and passing guys in front of me. My laptimes were a lot faster than the leaders and I closed right up, its just a shame I ran out of laps. So yes, it was a good day, winning a race and showing speed again in race two. I am very much looking forward for Sunday as Im really enjoying riding in the sand and hopefully I can continue to get up onto the podium again."
