Tom Vialle injury update: Out of MXGP Oss
By Andrew Hill on 14th Jul 21
Tom Vialle has been dealt a fitness blow with his hand fracture failing to heal in time for the MXGP in Oss this weekend.
The 20-year-old Frenchman suffered a small break in his right hand during a training accident before the Matterley Basin round last month.
Vialles fracture has almost healed, but any further stress on the bone could produce a setback, which means the defending MX2 world champion will miss this weekends MXGP of the Netherlands at Oss.
The Grand Prix in Oss came just a bit too soon," Vialle said in a press release. "The bone has not healed 100 per cent so we still need to wait a little before practising and racing again. We will make another check-up next week, and I hope to ride in Loket."
Round five of the FIM Motocross World Championship, the MXGP of Czech Republic, at Loket is set for July 25.
Vialle's absence from Oss means he will have missed out on three championship rounds by the time the weekend has concluded. At that point, the injury to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pilot will mean he'll have missed out on challenging for 150 championship points. He is already 63 points adrift from teammate Mattia Guadagnini who heads the MX2 standings.
However, heading to Oss, only 14 points separate the top-five in what is right now a tight title race. That close battle could be a blessing for Vialle, with no single rider dominating the points table.
Other than Vialle, who has won two motos, only three other riders have scored a moto win in the opening three rounds: Thibault Benistant, Maxime Renaux and Guadagnini (two moto wins).
Even so, if Vialle is to make a successful defence, he will need to bounce back quickly.
