Numero Uno for Iddon in Italy...
By TMX Archives on 1st Jun 07
THE first night time Supermoto GP will be remembered as one of the most fascinating events that the Oval Lingotto circuit in Turin, Italy, has ever hosted. It will also long remain in the memory of British rider, Christian Iddon, as he secured his first ever overall GP victory there on Saturday night.
The team Aprilia rider was not the only rider to secure his maiden GP win as Thomas Chareyre did likewise in the S1 class
The weather was the only negative mark of the event, as there was a lot of rain in the morning. Though it stopped in the afternoon, the race conditions were wet.
Husqvarna's Gerald Delepine opened the S2 racing with the victory in the first moto a very strong Iddon - the race one runner-up - fought back in the final race, to win an that gave him the overall on a tie-break.
Britain's other top name, Matt Winstanley was also in the mix, but he crashed in the off-road section. Winstanley made up for his earlier crash with a fourth place.
In the second moto, Iddon blasted into the lead in turn one and pulled away. It was not an easy moto for the Brit, who felt massive pressure from a very determined Delepine, but the Brit closed all the doors.
Matt Winstanley was once again consistent, and ended the top five.
Iddon now moves into second in the class standings.
