Off-road loses its biggest supporter

The UK off-road scene lost one of its most passionate ambassadors last week when Nik Fisk succumbed to cancer after a long battle. He was 59
Nik, from Leighton Buzzard, was a larger than life character who loved bikes in all their shapes and forms. Drag racing, motocross, enduro – he was a keen competitor but it was behind the microphone where he really shone.
After competing in – and getting disqualified from – the second Weston Beach Race he ensured a long association with the event as its main commentator and his working relationship with promoter John Horler continued through numerous British GPs and the Shell Advance series.
"He was a great character,” said John, "full of life and full of ideas. We used to joke that he could talk the hind leg off a Weston donkey. It's a sad loss to the sport.”
Nik's effervescent personality and in-depth knowledge of off-road sport meant he was never short of work and he was also in charge of the mic at early UKSX events, numerous British MX championship rounds, countless enduros and the live stage at the Dirt Bike Show.
Often outspoken and opinionated but never arrogant or egotistical, behind the scenes Nik was a tireless worker for the sport. He spent six years on the ACU Motocross Committee and was heavily involved in grassroots racing where his passion and enthusiasm inspired everyone he met.
He's survived by his wife Ann, son Matt and daughter Abbie.
