Petar Petrov of the Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team advanced to fifth in the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship after finishing fifth overall in the GP of Patagonia at Neuquen.
The Bulgarian, a technical rider, did not immediately feel comfortable on the high-speed track in the foothills of the Andes, but in typical gritty style he knuckled down to the task in hand to eventually come away with his best overall result of the season, a result which has also lifted him one place in the series standings to fifth. The muscular rider started outside the top ten in each GP moto but battled relentlessly to finish sixth and eighth, a combination which gave him fifth overall for the weekend.
Vsevolod Brylyakov of Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki equalled his best result of the series so far as he put concern about domestic matters back home out of his mind to ride two error-free races to eighth and seventh for sixth overall in the GP. This also lifted him two places to eighth in the series standings. The young Russian also made his best starts of the season to travel confidently to Mexico for the fifth round of the series next weekend.
Petar Petrov: "I battled all weekend long, but finally I got my best result of the year with a fifth overall in the GP and fifth position in the championship ! On Saturday I didn't feel comfortable on the track but we worked on the settings and found solutions; this track was really fast and I'm never as comfortable when it's not so technical. But I had to deal with it, so there are a lot of positive points to take out of the weekend. I know that I have to work on the starts and the first ten minutes; we need to fix that for the next GPs. In both motos I passed several riders in the second half of the races; it's frustrating as with better starts I could have been on the podium. But it's a long season, it's important to be consistent and apart from one DNF we have been consistent so far.”
Vsevolod Brylyakov: "With another top six result the team is pretty happy and I'm also glad to be consistent since the beginning of the season; we're improving step by step. This weekend wasn't really easy for me as I had some problems back home; I had to fly back to Russia before coming here and it was quite difficult mentally. I had no time to do good training and, considering these conditions, I'm happy with the result, so I'm looking forward to Mexico. My starts were the best of the season so far, twice in the top ten and then I did my best. I was struggling with the track; I wasn't so fast but didn't make any mistakes, that was the key to scoring good points.”
