The ACU and Portsmouth MXC have announced an agreement that will see one of the oldest motocross clubs return to the ACU in 2021.

Portsmouth MXC are not only one of the longest-running clubs, they also boast one of the biggest memberships. The Southern-based club has been running since it was formed in 1973 four years before TMX first went to print and annually boasts an average 400 members, with a variety of riding groups catering for all ages.

The clubs motto when it was first established was The Friendly Club and this has been maintained up until the present day. The club is always happy to see new members, always on hand to help and always has a friendly atmosphere at the race meetings.

After a tough 2020 season which saw the club opting not to run during Covid-19, the club and committee are now fully prepared to return in 2021 in full force and beginning the new era as part of the ACU for the club.

The ACU has expressed how pleased they are to have this opportunity to work with such a professional organiser and is working towards a seamless transition for the Organising Committee and its racing members.

For the 2021 season, Portsmouth MXC will host a 12-round Summer Championship starting at the beginning of February at their home venue of Swanmore before heading to West Meon at the end of the month.

Other venues that are due to be used include Wroxton, Milton Malsor and Grittenham and will be announced once the dates are allocated.

Portsmouth MXC will also be one of four clubs that are part of the Kawasaki Army for 2021 and is the club representing the South. Any 2020/2021 UK registered Kawasaki owners riding a 250 and 450 will be eligible for prize money from Kawasaki at six events during the season.

As a Club, we are looking forward to moving into our new era with the ACU and will be celebrating our clubs 50th year as members of the ACU in 2023, said Portsmouth MXC Chairman, Martin Bradbury.

For 2021 as a club, we have decided that due to the current pandemic we will run every three weeks instead of every two weeks which would give us an extra week to sort any extra requirements due to changing government guidelines.

We also hope that if all goes as planned during the Summer, we would be looking to bring back our Winter Series Championship through October, November, December, January to make 2021 a fantastic year of racing with Portsmouth MXC and the ACU.

ACU Motocross Committee Chairman, Steve McCauley commented: This is fantastic news for the ACU and we are very much looking forward to a long and productive relationship with Martin, Kay and the rest of the Portsmouth MXC club. Id like to thank the Portsmouth MXC club and its committee for choosing to work with the ACU in 2021 and beyond.
