Report: Surrey Schoolboy Trials Club
By TMX Archives on 7th May 14
Surrey Schoolboy Trials Club returned to Brackendene, near Chertsey, where 35 young riders contested Round 5 of the Sammy Miller Products Youth Championship in lovely spring sunshine.
The eight sections set out within the former ornamental garden utilised fallen trees, muddy stream and some newly built embankments with each section was ridden four times.
In the Beginner class, Cameron Ferris had the perfect clean ride finishing on zero marks but was closely followed by Dominic Day on one, Jasmine Hammond on two and George Orriss on three with the drop into section four causing most of the problems.
It was the same section four, this time through the rocky stream bed, which took Beginner 50/50 class winner, Max Wiggins, only two marks of the day.
The largest and most competitive class of the day was the Novice's where another new face took top honours.
Lewis Reed dropped a few silly dabs on through the trees of the twisty section three to finish on three marks.
Ben Watson a point adrift on four and perennial class winner Jack Brazier on five after an unfortunate disagreement with the rocks on his first visit to section two.
Jack rode clean the rest of the day which put him ahead of George Clarke who also finished on five.
In the Novice 50/50 class the ever improving George Lawrence had a five free day amassing a total of thirteen, a fair way ahead of the chasing pack of Josh Talbot, Jamie Jeffrey, Dale Freeman and Ollie Brimecombe who all struggled with the large log of section one.
On the Intermediate route, young Jack Dance arrived late but was not fazed and led home the class on 16 marks lost, one mark ahead of William Mayle with Tom Frearson on 19.
A new face in the Expert class, Tom McCabe, showed the usual riders how it is done by taking the class win on 19 marks, two ahead of Jack Frearson who struggled with the large double logs of section onewhere Tom had a clean slate.
The club moves on to Faygate on the May 17 for round five of the Back to Life Championship.
